PHOENIX— A pediatrician was sentenced to 14 years in prison on Monday for distributing child pornography during the time he was practicing medicine, federal officials stated.
U.S. District Judge David G. Campbell also ordered that Emilio Luna, 44, of Sun City, Arizona., will be under a lifetime of supervised release after he serves his prison sentence. He will also be required to register as a sex offender and prohibited from working as a pediatrician, federal officials said.
Luna previously plead guilty on two counts of distribution of child pornography during a time when he was a practicing pediatrician.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the FBI.
