MIAMI-DADE – A police officer who falsified reports to fix bad credit ratings has been indicted, officials stated.
The police reports would falsely represent that the customers had reported to the Miami-Dade Police Department facts that they were victims of identity theft, according to authorities.
These reports would end up at credit reporting agencies in order to induce the removal of negative items from the credit histories of the alleged victims identified in the false police reports, officials allege.
Rafael Duran, 43, of Miami, is charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud offenses that could result in a prison sentence of up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted, authorities stated.
