CLEVELAND, OHIO
The FBI arrested police officer Kevin Ryan Lumpkin, age 29, for selling firearms to felons, officials said today.
A criminal complaint affidavit states that Lumpkin was a North Randall police officer at the time he purchased firearms for two alleged felons. Lumpkin allegedly knew that these two felons could not purchase the weapons on their own because of their convictions.
In August 2012, officials said a search of the residence of these convicted felons by a local police department resulted in firearms and boxes of firearms being recovered. Those firearms and firearm boxes were traced to purchases made by Lumpkin, authorities allege.
A traffic stop made on a suspect driving a vehicle with expired license plate tags resulted in a .380 caliber Ruger pistol being recovered. The suspect was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant. The pistol recovered had been purchased by Lumpkin, officials allege.
Lumpkin is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
