KENTUCKY
A federal grand jury today indicted a former deputy with the Bullitt County, Kentucky, Sheriff’s Office for allegedly charging a resident for crimes he didn’t commit, according to authorities.
The indictment alleges that Matthew Corder, 51, of Louisville, Kentucky, arrested D.B., a Bullitt County resident, on Oct. 22, 2014, without probable cause to believe that D.B had committed a crime and that Corder unlawfully entered the D.B.’s home to effect the arrest.
Corder has a past history of using excessive force, according to published reports.
Cordero was charged two counts of willfully depriving an arrestee of his constitutional rights under color of law, officials said.
The indictment further alleges that on Oct. 23, 2014, Corder charged the victim, identified as D.B., with two crimes that he did not commit, and included false and misleading information in the charging document that caused D.B. to be detained in jail pending resolution of the charges.
The charges, disorderly conduct and fleeing and evading, were eventually dismissed.
If convicted, Corder faces a maximum statutory punishment of 10 years of imprisonment on the first charge and one year of imprisonment on the second charge.
Corder is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Corder has been accused of misconduct in the past.
In 2005, Corder was acquitted of all charges from an incident in which he drew his weapon and handcuffed someone trying to repossess his sport utility vehicle in 2002, according to WHAS 11 TV ABC report.
Corder also has been accused twice of using excessive force, according to a news report.
Corder’s wife former Bullitt County Sheriff’s Detective Lynn Hunt filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the sheriff and demanded reinstatement with back pay, according to a WDRB.com report
Hunt, who was in charge of multiple high-profile investigations, was fired July 16 for violating several department policies during March and June, including lying to investigators, according to her termination letter provided in the lawsuit, the news report stated.
