CHAPMANVILLE, WV (WCHS/WVAH) — West Virginia State Police said they believe the death of a 15-year-old middle school student who was struck in the head with an arrow was an accident, but a juvenile could be charged with involuntary manslaughter.
State Police said Caleb Fairchild, 15, was playing “dodging arrows” with a group of three teens in in the yard of a home near the Boone/Logan line Saturday night. An arrow struck Fairchild in the head and killed him.
Fairchild was an eighth-grader at Chapmanville Middle School, where there are counselors and a pastor on site Monday talking with students.
State Police said they believe the incident was an accident, but said the juvenile could still be charged. Involuntary manslaughter is a misdemeanor offense.
