Former teacher’s aide pleads guilty to having improper relationship with Allen High student
A former teacher’s aide at Allen High School was sentenced this week to probation after a relationship she had with a female student turned sexual.
Kearney Day, 22, pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony charge of having an improper relationship with a student in early 2014. In exchange for her guilty plea, Collin County prosecutors dismissed eight other counts, including charges of sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child sexual contact.
Day, who was scheduled to go to trial on Monday, was sentenced to deferred adjudication probation for four years and fined $500. She must also do 120 hours of community service and have no unsupervised contact with children, according to the court docket.
Her attorney could not be reached for comment.
Day, who worked as an instructional aide with Allen ISD, was fired when the allegations came to light.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the student told her principal that the relationship began in January 2014 when she was 16 and Day was 20. The student told authorities she considered Day her girlfriend. They used a phone app called Kik to exchange messages, some of which were sexually suggestive. The student said “that sex did take place” multiple times during a Valentine’s Day sleepover at her house when her mother was away, the affidavit stated.
