The NYPD and FDNY have a long history of working together to save lives in New York City. But put them together on a field of play and all hell usually breaks loose, according to the New York Daily News.
It happened again on Sunday, when the city’s Bravest and Finest squared off in what was supposed to be a friendly charity football game at MCU Park on Coney Island. Instead, it turned into an all out brawl that resulted in some bloody faces, bruised knuckles and soaring testosterone levels, the New York Daily News reports.
In video shot on the field just after the cops’ 29-13 win over the firefighters at the iconic Brooklyn ballpark during what is ironically nicknamed the “Fun City Bowl,” the teams are seen converging near the 50-yard line for what was supposed to be a traditional post-game handshake. But tempers flared as players got in each other’s faces.
Soon, bodies hit the turf as the amateur football players tugged at each other’s jerseys. After about a minute of fisticuffs, the sides start to separate as coaches yell “Sideline!”
Money from the fundraiser will go to the NYPD’s Widows’ & Children’s Fund and the FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation.
