SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA
Two federal inmates who were caught with homemade weapons known as shanks are now facing up to five years in prison if convicted of illegally possessing weapons, according to officials.
A federal grand jury in Scranton today indicted two inmates at the Schuylkill Federal Correctional Institution in two separate cases, officials said.
According to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith, inmate Michael Thompson, age 30, was charged with possession of a homemade sharpened weapon known as a “shank” in January of 2016.
Inmate James Bailey-Snyder, age 23, was charged for a similar offense which occurred in August 2015.
The investigations were conducted by the FBI.
