HUGHSON — A Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputy was killed Sunday morning at Fox Grove Park in Hughson.
Deputy Christian Torres discovered Deputy Dennis Wallace, 53, dead with two gunshot wounds to the head, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.
At 8:24 a.m., Deputy Wallace was on duty in a sheriff’s car when he called for backup in regards to a suspicious person in a white, 2009 Kia Rio. Dispatch confirmed the vehicle had recently been carjacked by David Machado from a victim in Keyes.
Stanislaus Sheriff’s reports that soon after the call Machado allegedly put a gun directly to Wallace’s head and shot him. Machado immediately fled the scene.
Lindsay Police Department detained Machado, 37, in Tulare County, according to CHP. He was attempting another carjacking when officers located him.
