RICHFIELD, OHIO – A former Richfield police officer was sentenced Monday for taking money from a ‘Shop with a Cop’ program, a charity fund used to buy Christmas gifts for financially disadvantaged children.
41-year-old Michael Simmons, of Stow, pleaded guilty to grand theft charges back in October.
According to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Simmons spent more that $26,000 between 2011 to 2016 on sports tickets, electronics, tools and clothing.
Simmons was in Summit County Commons Pleas court this morning where he was sentenced to 2 years probation, 500 hours of community service and ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution.
