The final piece to a high-profile murder case: Jamar Milton, 19, the third of three teens involved in a local murder, was sentenced Wednesday.
Milton received a sentence of 58 to 82 years in prison for his role in a murder in Miller Park during the summer of 2015.
“Yeah, I’m good… I ain’t trippin’,” said Milton when he was asked about his feelings going into the courtroom for the hearing.
After a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder and first-degree assault, “No, I’m good,” was Milton’s response when the judge asked for a comment during the sentencing.
“It’s very sad all the way around. I mean, you have a person who’s dead. A life is lost. And then you have young people who have been sentenced to the penitentiary for a long period of time,” said Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine.
The day of the shooting, Milton, his 12-year-old brother, Jerrell Milton, and 15-year-old Shuntayvious Primes-Willis shot two men during a drug deal robbery. One of the victims, 31-year-old Jamymell Ray, died. The other, 30-year-old Charles Fisher, survived his gunshot wounds. He later helped identify the boys in a police lineup, which eventually led to Milton being identified as the shooter.
“He seemed to be the most culpable since we believe him to be the trigger man,” said Kleine.
Milton will be eligible for parole in 34 years and will be given credit for 621 days served.
Jerrell Milton was sentenced to live in a group home and will be on probation until he turns 19. Primes-Willis was sentenced to 30-50 years in prison.
