LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A man arrested plead not guilty by reason of mental defect in connection with the Dec. 2016 shooting death of a three-year-old boy.
Gary Holmes, 33, was in Pulaski County court Thursday to enter his plea. The incident occurred on the southwest side of town. Police said this was a case of road rage.
Acen King, who was riding in the back seat of his grandmother’s car, died in the shooting. Kim King-Macon told us this week that she had looked into the back seat to see if Acen and his younger brother were okay before she drove on to a shopping center several miles away, only to discover Acen had been hit by the gunfire.
Also during Thursday’s court hearing, a date was set for a mental evaluation. Holmes is being held without bond.
Holmes was arrested in the case five days after it happened on charges of Capital Murder and Terroristic Act.
