LOS ANGELES
A 36-year-old Compton man was charged Thursday with carjacking and shooting at a man two weeks ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Deonte Lee Murray faces one felony count each of carjacking, second-degree robbery and assault with a semiautomatic firearm-personal use of a firearm.
Assistant Head Deputy Robert Grace of the Hardcore Gang Division said the allegations include that the crime was committed in association with a criminal street gang. Murray also discharged a rifle inflicting great bodily injury and personal use of an AR-15, Grace stated.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On September 1, Murray allegedly confronted a victim in the 600 block of Bradfield Avenue and shot at him, injuring his leg, and then stole the victim’s vehicle, the prosecutor said. The defendant was found and arrested on September 15.
Bail is set at $1.24 million. If convicted as charged, Murray faces a possible maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison.
Deputy District Attorney Brian Kang is the assigned prosecutor.
