A Compton man has been charged with carjacking a vehicle that had a 93-year-old woman and a 9-week-old baby on board, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
Maaliki Grant (dob 8/13/98) faces two felony counts of kidnapping for carjacking with allegations that one victim was over 65 years old and another was under 14 years old as well as one felony count of resisting arrest with serious bodily injury.
Grant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On October 17, Grant allegedly took a car parked in front of a fabric store on 9th Street and Maple Avenue with the baby and his great-grandmother inside, prosecutors said.
The defendant returned to the area two hours later where police laid out a spike strip which seriously injured an officer when Grant drove over it, prosecutors added.
The defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of life in prison.
