LOS ANGELES
A Los Angeles County sheriff’s custody assistant has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a jail cell last year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Daniel Everts, 25, was charged with one count each of forcible oral copulation, oral copulation by the threat of arrest or to deport under color of authority, and sexual activity with an adult confined in a detention facility, according to officials.
Everts plead not guilty to the charges.
Deputy District Attorney Rena Durrant of the Justice System Integrity Division is prosecuting the case.
On June 17, 2019, Everts was working as a custody assistant at the sheriff’s Lancaster station when he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman who had been taken there earlier.
Prosecutors are recommending bail be set at $100,000.
If convicted as charged, the defendant is facing up to eight years in state prison.
