LOS ANGELES
A woman charged with running over and killing a bicyclist in Whittier then fleeing three years ago is now in local custody, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.
Deputy District Attorney Sonia Govea of the Extradition Services Section said Andrea Dorothy Chan was arrested in Adelaide, Australia in April 2018.
The defendant was ultimately extradited and escorted by U.S. Marshals into local custody Thursday, officials stated.
Chan aka Andrea Dorothy Reyes, 35, faces one felony count each of hit-and-run driving resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter, prosecutors stated.
The defendant also is charged with one misdemeanor count of destroying or concealing evidence and faces allegations of causing great bodily injury.
Arraignment is set for Monday.
On Jan. 13, 2017, Chan allegedly ran over Augustin Rodriguez, 46, and dragged the victim underneath the car for a period of time, prosecutors said.
The defendant reportedly then had her vehicle fixed and stored in Idaho before leaving the country.
If convicted as charged, Chan faces a possible maximum sentence of more than 11 years in state prison.
The case remains under investigation by the Whittier Police Department.
