Prosecutors very rarely prosecute police officers for brutality or killing an unarmed suspect. I was a newspaper reporter for the Ventura County Star in California for 13 years.
I wrote stories involving police shootings and brutal beatings that were never prosecuted, including the shooting of an innocent person who was shot multiple times. The slaying was recorded on video by an Oxnard resident.
The family sued and got a record $6.7 million judgment to settle the wrongful death suit.
The city paid $1.55 million to the family of 23-year-old Robert Jones, a distraught young artist killed by police while cowering in his bedroom closet.

The problem is also the media, especially TV news, that rarely does any news reports about community policing or police brutality.
Rarely does a community read or see stories about how police Internal Affairs handles complaints about police brutality and abuse.
That has to also change.

JUST SAYING:
Dirty and corrupt cops are a fact of life in police departments throughout the nation. It cost taxpayers millions of dollars to pay for lawsuits filed by people who were put in jail by dirty cops planting drugs on innocent citizens. Also courts, lawyers, and prosecutors must undo the damages caused by these dirty cops which also costs tens of millions of dollars.

UNDETERRED BY the backlash to Georgia’s new anti-voting law, Arizona Republicans have made their state ground zero in the party’s spurious efforts to question the 2020 election results and restrict voting. First, they insisted on running a chaotic “audit” of the 2020 vote in Maricopa County, the state’s most populous, without the expertise or the safeguards to do so credibly; that nightmare continues, and the results could seriously harm faith in U.S. elections. Then, Arizona Republicans imposed what they call “fixes” to state election law, including a new voting restriction that is pointless — if your goal is to make elections simple and fair.
Before about a decade ago, Arizona had been a model in expanding ballot-box access. Large numbers of Arizonans continue to cast ballots by mail. In fact, the state automatically mails ballots to some 75 percent of its voters, who are on Arizona’s permanent early voting list.

The Republican Party set up a clown show run by political freaks and aberrations to “audit” the 2020 vote in Maricopa County. Trump’s cult followers and white supremacists want to overturn an election that shows that Biden won in the state of Arizona. Arizona Republicans rival their political counterparts Texas Republicans in breathtaking stupidity along with the election of scoundrels, political parasites and opportunists, and crooks to political offices. Both states have one thing in common: pure hate and blind ignorance. Arizona is the state that kept Sheriff Arpaio — who engaged in wholesale civil rights violations against Brown people — in office for 24 years. Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office were sued for wrongful arrest, wrongful death, entrapment, and other claims. It cost the taxpayers more than $140 million as damages in litigation. Arpaio also was a birther and said that Obama’s birth certificate was a forgery. According to published reports, over three years ending in 2007, more than 400 sex crimes reported to Arpaio’s office were inadequately investigated or not investigated at all. On August 2017, Trump pardoned Arpaio for his conviction for criminal contempt of court. Now, Arizona taxpayers are paying $150,000 to pay for the “audit” being done by the “Cyber Ninjas,” a company run and owned by Doug Logan who subscribes to QaNon and other insane conspiracies. “As a Christian company, we also believe we have a responsibility to serve, as Christ served. Helping the USCC is a great way to be a blessing to others while helping combat evil hackers,” he said in 2014. Thank God for Arizona Democrats and Independents who are finally waking up to this Republican cancer that is plaguing America.
