Los Angeles County
A man was charged Monday with breaking into a home and killing two pet birds, according to state prosecutors.
“Pets are part of our extended family and the loss of a pet, let alone two, can be devastating.” District Attorney George Gascón said.
Paul Kiyan, 34, from the Los Angeles area, faces four felony counts: one count each of first-degree residential burglary with a person present and vandalism as well as two counts of cruelty to an animal.
Kiyan is charged with gaining entry into a home in Casiano Road in Bel-Air, and killing the two parakeets, on June 17.
Kiyan is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
