EDINBURG, Texas
Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol (RGV) agents stopped three drug smuggling attempts worth over a million dollars, according to officials.
Monday, Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station (RGC) agents working near Salineno, Texas, responded to a call regarding suspicious activity near the Rio Grande.
Responding agents encountered a group of about 20 narcotic smugglers.
The smugglers abandoned 14 bundles of marijuana and were observed going back into Mexico. The marijuana weighed approximately 1,040 pounds and is valued at more than $835,000.
This morning, RGC All-Terrain Vehicle agents working near Rio Grande City, Texas, observed fresh footprints leading away from the river and into the United States.
Agents followed the footprints and encountered the smugglers, who immediately absconded back toward the river. Agents seized two abandoned bundles of marijuana that weighed over 90 pounds and are worth approximately $73,000.
Additionally, agents seized over 200 pounds of marijuana in Brownsville, Texas, on Monday.
The seized narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
