LOS ANGELES DISTRICT ATTORNEY
A former Saugus High School principal has been charged with perjury and conflict of interest in connection with helping establish a student exchange program in China.
“Those who break the law by putting their own best interest before the people they are supposed to serve will be held accountable for their actions,” District George Attorney Gascón said.
William Bolde, 65, was charged with one felony count each of perjury and conflict of interest. He is expected to be arraigned on Jan. 12.
Bolde helped set up a student exchange program with a high school in Gaoxin, China as well as created a nonprofit organization to administer the program.
He is charged with having a conflict of interest because he was still principal at Saugus High School while he had an employment agreement with the nonprofit, according to prosecutors.
Bolde also is charged with lying on disclosure forms, according to prosecutors.
The case remains under investigation by the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation, Public Integrity Unit.
