A man was charged Friday for the attempted murder of five Arcadia police officers, his elderly mother, and for critically wounding an elderly neighbor, officials stated.
“Domestic disputes like these can often have fatal consequences but fortunately, in this instance the victims who were shot are expected to survive,” District Attorney George Gascón said. “I appreciate the bravery and unwavering dedication by officers who risk their lives every day to protect our communities.”
Nurhan Venk, 47, was charged with five counts of attempted murder of a peace officer, one count of attempted murder with an elder abuse allegation, one count of mayhem, and two counts of elder abuse, according to officials.

One officer was struck in the face and critically wounded.
Venk’s mother also was allegedly beaten and shot. A neighbor was struck by a stray bullet and injured as well, officials stat
All three injured parties were taken to a nearby hospital and treated.
Venk barricaded himself inside the house for about five hours before surrendering.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
