The nation must spend billions of this clean energy money to help build dozens of desalination plants on the West Coast, where a severe drought is drying up the rivers and land.
But they won’t.
Why?
Because it works, and politicians can’t think beyond their next election. Most have the attention span of spider monkeys and will find a way to reinvent the wheel in their districts because it will bring jobs to their constituents.
San Diego has a privately-owned desalination plant, and it pumps 50 million gallons of ocean water every day to the city.
Think about it. That’s 50 million gallons of ocean water every single day to the city of San Diego.
So why can’t desalination plants be used to send water from the ocean to rivers, reservoirs, and cities — 24/7. Start state co-operations to build these desalination plants and share in the costs and profits of getting water from the ocean.
“We make clean, safe water from a drought-proof source – the ocean, according to the private company that owns the plant,” the desalination plant website stated.
“The Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant is the largest, most technologically advanced and energy-efficient seawater desalination plant in the nation. Each day, the plant delivers nearly 50 million gallons (56,000 acre-feet per year (AFY)) of fresh, desalinated water to San Diego County – enough to serve approximately 400,000 people and accounting for about one-third of all water generated in the County. “
