Posted on July 27, 2023

The U.S. Department of Justice is opening a Civil Rights investigation into the City of Memphis and the Memphis Police Department to determine whether a pattern or practice of conduct violates the Constitution or our Federal Civil Rights laws, according to officials.

The investigation will focus on MPD’s use of force and its stops, searches, and arrests, as well as whether it engages in discriminatory policing, officials stated.
