LOS ANGELES
Los Angeles Police Officer Garo Garabedian was charged with assaulting a suspect and seriously injuring him while responding to a domestic violence call in the city of Los Angeles in May 2023.
“As law enforcement officers, those entrusted with the responsibility of protecting our community must be held to the highest of standards of integrity and accountability,” said District Attorney George Gascón. “Violating this trust undermines both public safety and the principles of justice that officers have sworn to uphold. No one is above the law, and we will pursue justice in this case to maintain the public’s faith in those who serve and protect.”
Garo Garabedian, 42, is charged with two felony counts of assault under the color of authority, according to authorities.
On May 29, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., LAPD Officer Garabedian, along with other officers, responded to a domestic violence incident at a residence in the city of Los Angeles. While arresting a male suspect, Garabedian allegedly assaulted him, resulting in serious injuries.
Garabedian faces up to six years and eight months in prison if convicted as charged.
According to officials, the Los Angeles Police Department is looking into the case and LADA’s Justice System Integrity Division is prosecuting it.
