A Lombard, Illinois, man was sentenced last week to 18 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl and attempting to support ISIS, officials stated.
In 2019, Jason Brown gave $500 on three separate occasions to someone he believed would transfer the funds to an ISIS fighter in Syria.
However, the recipient was actually an informant working with law enforcement, and the supposed ISIS fighter was an undercover officer, according to authorities.
In addition to supporting ISIS, Brown trafficked fentanyl and other drugs from California to the Chicago area, and he illegally possessed loaded firearms in connection with his drug activities
Brown, 42, pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to support ISIS, distributing fentanyl, and possessing a firearm during drug trafficking.
U.S. District Judge Mary M. Rowland handed down the sentence in Chicago on October 16, 2024.
Brown has been in custody since his 2019 arrest.
