A Minnesota man was arrested and charged with federal hate crimes for assaulting a Black man outside a bar, federal prosecutors stated.
The indictment, unsealed Monday alleges that on Feb. 3, 2024, Justin Anthony Kudla used force or threats to harm and intimidate the victim, identified as Victim 1, because of his race.
Kudla allegedly targeted Victim 1 while he was using the services and facilities of the bar. The charges include willfully causing bodily injury to Victim 1 based on his race.
Kudla is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
If convicted, Kudla faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each offense and a fine of up to $250,000.
