LOS ANGELES
A former Orange County man was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for receiving nearly $500,000 in kickbacks from sober living homes and illegally trafficking firearms, officials stated.
Darius Moore, 31, formerly of Santa Ana and currently residing in North Carolina, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Josephine L. Staton.
Moore admitted to conspiring with addiction treatment facility operators from February to December 2020, steering patients to their programs in exchange for kickbacks, knowing the centers would fraudulently bill private insurance.
While out on bond, Moore violated release conditions, including selling two firearms and a high-capacity drum magazine in May 2023. He was later charged and pleaded guilty to firearm possession as a felon, according to authorities.
Moore has been in custody since August 2023.
The case was investigated by the FBI, ATF, and California Department of Insurance, and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the DOJ Criminal Division.
