A Virginia career services manager pleaded guilty to wire fraud for orchestrating a nearly $3 million scheme to defraud the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to officials.
Jeffrey Williams, 37, of Alexandria, admitted to submitting hundreds of falsified documents between July 2022 and May 2024 while working at a school offering cyber training to veterans.
Williams forged employment letters, certifications, and veterans’ signatures to show students had secured jobs, falsely qualifying the school for VA-funded tuition payments. The scam involved at least 189 veterans and led to $2.9 million in fraudulent claims, according to officials.
Williams faces up to 20 years in prison. Sentencing will be set by a federal judge. The VA Office of Inspector General is investigating the case.
