Doctor Facing 20 Years in Prison for Illegally Prescribing Opioids from His Home

Posted on May 13, 2025

Doctor and 18 Others Indicted for Distributing Prescription DrugsA New Hampshire doctor has pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegally distributing opioids—the first conviction from a joint investigation by the New England Strike Force and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire, officials stated.

Dr. Robert G. Soucy Jr., 72, of Columbia, admitted to prescribing opioids from his home despite knowing that local pharmacies wouldn’t fill them. He directed a patient to fill the prescriptions at a pharmacy outside the area and continued prescribing to that patient—who had a known substance abuse disorder—even after the patient moved out of New England and without performing medical evaluations or tests.

Dr. Soucy faces up to 20 years in prison. He has surrendered his DEA registration and can no longer prescribe controlled substances, officials state.
