Former Fairmont Heights Police Officer Philip Dupree was sentenced to six years and two months in prison following his June 17, 2024, conviction for using excessive force, officials announced Wednesday.
At trial, prosecutors showed that on August 4, 2019, while on duty, Dupree conducted a traffic stop in Washington, D.C., and pepper-sprayed a handcuffed man seated in his patrol car.
The FBI Washington Field Office investigated the case.
The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C. prosecuted the case.
