WASHINGTON— A federal appeals court rejected the 17-year and six-month sentence, saying it was “too lenient” but upheld the conviction against Jose Padilla who was convicted of helping terrorists.
Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke re-sentenced Padilla to 21 years in prison for his 2007 conviction for conspiracy to murder, kidnap and maim individuals in a foreign country; conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists; and providing material support to terrorists, officials said.
Padilla faced a sentence of up to life in prison under the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines life in prison.
