Greenville, Tenn. — A Tennessee woman has pleaded guilty to federal charges for participating in online groups that commissioned and shared videos depicting extreme torture and sexual abuse of monkeys, according to the Justice Department.
Katrina Favret, of Greenville, pleaded guilty to conspiring to create and distribute “animal crush videos” and to a second count tied to a specific video she solicited, court documents show.
Prosecutors said Favret and others communicated through encrypted messaging platforms, where they coordinated payments to individuals in Indonesia who agreed to carry out acts of violence against baby and adult monkeys on camera.
According to a signed statement of facts, the videos included scenes in which monkeys had their fingers and limbs severed, and others in which monkeys were forcibly sexually assaulted, including with a heated screwdriver.
Favret now faces sentencing in federal court.
