Nabil Fakih, 50, of Wayne County, Michigan, received a 46-month sentence and was ordered to pay $4 million in restitution.
A federal judge also ordered the forfeiture of four real estate properties and more than $726,000 tied to the scheme.
Federal prosecutors said that between 2011 and 2017, Fakih routinely billed Medicare for prescription medications he never dispensed — in some cases for drugs his pharmacy didn’t even carry. The claims focused on high-reimbursement medications, including blood thinners and inhalers used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
According to court filings, Fakih masked the fraud by manipulating inventory records and shuffling the proceeds through various accounts before using the money for personal expenses. The total loss to Medicare reached roughly $4 million.
Fakih pleaded guilty in August 2024 to one count of healthcare fraud in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
