KANSAS CITY, Mo.
A Kansas City man was sentenced to 115 months in federal prison after he was caught carrying a loaded gun while driving a stolen vehicle last summer, officials announced last week.
U.S. District Judge Greg Kays sentenced Shannon J. Price, 30, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Price, who has multiple prior felony convictions, is barred under federal law from possessing a gun or ammunition.
On July 28, 2023, Price was on probation for aggravated assault when law enforcement officers investigating a stolen-car ring spotted him behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle, according to authorities.
Officers followed him to a convenience store, where Price walked inside with a loaded firearm while other customers were present.
When he noticed officers, Price hid the gun on a low shelf, within reach of anyone who entered the store, according to prosecutors. Officers arrested him moments later and recovered the weapon.
Surveillance video captured the incident.
The case was prosecuted by Justice Department Trial Attorney Sarah J. Rasalam and investigated by the FBI.
