“Editorial independence will actually be maintained,” Ellison told CNBC last week. “It’s maintained at CBS, it’ll be maintained at CNN.”
Who in the hell believes David Ellison after that remark: “It’s maintained at CBS.”
He hires Bari Weiss. Weiss immediately brings in Erika Kirk, who goes out and tells the world Charlie Kirk wasn’t a bona fide bigot.
Weiss lobed softball questions at Kirk pretending it was journalism and an “interview” with any news-gathering merit.
Then Tony Dokoupil gets elevated to anchor the CBS Evening News.
Dokoupil turns the moment into a performance about himself—complete with tears.
Then Weiss reportedly tries to strong-arm a planned interview between Stephen Colbert and Texas legislator James Talarico.
Where did all this come from?
Trump.
Ellison expects Americans to believe he’s acting independently. But the pattern is obvious: a media company drifting toward the same right-wing narrative machine that feeds Fox News viewers.Now Ellison says: Trust me.
Why should anyone?
Americans need to recognize what’s happening.

Money.

When companies start hemorrhaging billions, that’s when they discover that millions of Americans are fed up with being treated like fools.
