California Man Indicted in Maine on Federal Sex Trafficking, Wire Fraud Charges

Posted on July 23, 2026

WASHINGTON — A federal grand jury in the District of Maine has returned a six-count indictment charging Shawn Bonneau, 40, of Fullerton, California, for allegedly sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion and wire fraud, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

According to court documents, from January 2016 through December 2023, Bonneau allegedly compelled three adult women to engage in commercial sex acts in Maine and elsewhere through force, fraud, or coercion for his financial benefit.

Federal prosecutors also allege that during the same period, Bonneau used electronic mail systems as part of a scheme to fraudulently obtain money from another individual.

If convicted, Bonneau faces up to life imprisonment, and up to lifetime supervised release.

The case is being investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New England Field Office.

An indictment contains allegations only. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
