CHICAGO — A suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for carrying out a string of six violent bank robberies in the Chicago suburbs over a 10-month period, federal prosecutors announced.
German Campos Jr., 26, of Franklin Park, Illinois, admitted robbing six banks between October 2023 and August 2024. Prosecutors said Campos brandished a firearm at bank tellers and customers during five of the robberies, escalating the danger to employees and the public.
U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin imposed the sentence Wednesday after Campos pleaded guilty in March 2026 to federal bank robbery and firearm offenses.
Authorities said the robberies occurred at the following locations:
- Oct. 18, 2023: U.S. Bank, Schaumburg, Illinois
- Dec. 16, 2023: U.S. Bank, Elmhurst, Illinois
- March 6, 2024: U.S. Bank, Schaumburg, Illinois
- June 13, 2024: U.S. Bank, Elmhurst, Illinois
- Aug. 9, 2024: BMO Bank, Park Ridge, Illinois
- Aug. 28, 2024: U.S. Bank, Niles, Illinois
Campos was arrested on Sept. 17, 2024, and has remained in federal custody since his arrest.
Federal authorities said the sentence reflects the seriousness of the armed robbery spree and the risks posed to bank employees and customers.
“Defendant’s repeated use of a gun during robberies, including pointing that gun into victim faces over and over again, posed a significant threat to the safety of the bank employees, customers, and general public,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie C. Stern argued in the government’s sentencing memorandum. “The only reason why defendant stopped his violent robbery spree was because he was finally caught after ten months of terrorizing bank employees and customers.”
