He is facing up to 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said<\/strong>: \u201cDanny Pagano, a capo in the Genovese Crime family, has now admitted to being a leader in a racketeering conspiracy that spanned nearly five years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Adding that the \u00a0plea demonstrates that La Cosa Nostra is not a thing of the past or a relic of movie myth.<\/p>\n<p>From 2009 through August 2014, Pagano, along with other members and associates of the Genovese Crime Family, committed a wide array of crimes including operating an illegal gambling business.<\/p>\n<p>Pagano, a captain, exercised a leadership role within the Family by, among other things, settling disputes between and among associates of the Family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Mafia Crime Structure<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Capo typically receives a share of the illegal earnings of each of his crew\u2019s Soldiers and associates, which is sometimes referred to as \u201ctribute.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Each \u201ccrew\u201d has as its leader a person known as a \u201cCaporegime,\u201d \u201cCapo,\u201d \u201cCaptain,\u201d or \u201cSkipper,\u201d who is responsible for supervising the criminal activities of his crew and providing \u201cSoldiers\u201d and associates with support and protection.<\/li>\n<li>The Genovese Crime Family operates through groups of individuals known as \u201ccrews\u201d and \u201cregimes,\u201d most of which are based in New York City.<\/li>\n<li>The Genovese Crime Family is part of a nationwide criminal organization known by various names, including the \u201cMafia\u201d and \u201cLa Cosa Nostra,&#8221; which operates through entities known as \u201cFamilies.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Daniel Pagano<\/strong> is a Caporegime or Captain in the Genovese Crime Family.<\/li>\n<li>Each crew consists of \u201cmade\u201d members, sometimes known as \u201cSoldiers,\u201d \u201cwiseguys,\u201d \u201cfriends of ours,\u201d and \u201cgood fellows.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Soldiers are aided in their criminal endeavors by other trusted individuals, known as \u201cassociates,\u201d who sometimes are referred to as \u201cconnected\u201d or identified as \u201cwith\u201d a Soldier or other member of the Family.<\/li>\n<li>Associates participate in the various activities of the crew and its members, officials said.<\/li>\n<li>In order for an associate to become a made member of the Family, the associate must first be of Italian descent and typically needed to demonstrate the ability to generate income for
