SHREVEPORT, LA<\/strong>\u2014\u00a0A Caddo Parish Commissioner was indicted on 12 counts of wire fraud for stealing from SWAG Nation, a nonprofit whose purpose is to help at-risk youth.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Michael Dwayne Williams<\/strong>, of Shreveport, allegedly devised a scheme to take more than $2,000 from the nonprofit’s bank account.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Caddo Parish Sheriff\u2019s Office investigated Michael Williams for several months and is pleased with the return of this indictment,\u201d said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator<\/strong>. \u201cUnfortunately, there are people elected to office who will abuse the public\u2019s trust. This money was meant for children, not politicians.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams faces up to 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n

The 54-year-old Williams urged\u00a0the parish commission to appropriate public funds for the nonprofit SWAG Nation, which helps youngsters from 7 years to 17 years, according to authorities.
