width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>CHARLOTTE, NC\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014\u00a0A federal indictment charges 12 alleged gang members \u00a0of <strong>United Blood Nation<\/strong> with racketeering conspiracy, including seven who are charged with murder, aid of racketeering and related firearms violations, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Those facing the murder, aid of racketeering and firearms violations are eligible for the death penalty, officials said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe individuals charged today have alleged ties to a ruthless street gang that uses fear, intimidation, and even murder to protect the interests of their criminal organization,\u201d said <strong>Acting\u00a0Attorney Jill Westmoreland\u00a0Rose<\/strong>. \u201cMy Office will work closely with our law enforcement partners, in North Carolina and across state lines, to identify and prosecute violent gang offenders and deliver justice to victims of gang violence.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The indictment names the following defendants:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jamell Lamon Cureton<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cAssassin,\u201d a\/k\/a \u201cMurda Mel,\u201d 22, of Charlotte.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nana Yaw Adoma<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cRatchet,\u201d 20, of Charlotte<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Lee Fudge<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cFlames\u201d a\/k\/a \u201cFlame,\u201d 22, of Pineville, N.C.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Daquan Everett<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cDay Day,\u201d 20, of Charlotte.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Randall Avery Hankins, II<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cFoe,\u201d 20, of Charlotte.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Malcolm Jarrel Hartley<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cSilent\u201d a\/k\/a \u201cBloody Silent,\u201d 21, of Charlotte.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nehemijel Maurice Houston<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cMijel\u201d a\/k\/a \u201cSwagg Out,\u201d 20 of Charlotte.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Briana Shakeyah Johnson<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cBreezy B\u201d a\/k\/a \u201cBreezy V\u201d 19, of Concord, N.C.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ibn Rashaan Kornegay<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cIB,\u201d 35, of Greenville, N.C.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Centrilia Shardon Leach<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cCeCe,\u201d 31, of Charlotte<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ahkeem Tahja McDonald<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cLil Keem\u201d a\/k\/a \u201cSavage,\u201d 21, of Charlotte<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rahkeem Lee McDonald<\/strong> a\/k\/a \u201cHitman\u201d a\/k\/a \u201cBig Keem,\u201d 22, of Charlotte<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Officials said the 12 defendants were members of the <strong>\u201cUnited Blood Nation,\u201d<\/strong> a criminal enterprise commonly known as \u201cUBN,\u201d or the \u201cBloods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the racketeering conspiracy charge, Cureton, Fudge, Hankins, Hartley, Johnson and Rahkeem McDonald are charged with two counts of murder in aid of racketeering and two counts of use or carry of a firearm related to the October 2014 murders of <strong>Douglas<\/strong> and <strong>Deborah London.<\/strong><br \/>\n<object id=\"flashObj\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" classid=\"clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000\" additional charges of possession of a firearm by a felon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe murder of a witness is more than just a violent assault calculated to shut down a prosecution,\u201d said Solicitor Kevin Brackett, \u201cit is an attack on the rule of law. It indicates a degree of contempt for the criminal justice system that deserves society\u2019s harshest penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The unsealed indictment also charges <strong>Cureton<\/strong> and <strong>Ahkeem McDonald<\/strong> with one count of murder in aid of racketeering and one count of use or carry of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death in connection with the August 2013 murder of <strong>Kwamne Donqurius Clyburn.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cureton, Adoma and Fudge are also charged with one count of Hobbs Act Robbery, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering activity, and one count of use or carry a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and possession of a firearm for the May 2014 armed robbery of the Pineville area mattress store owned by<strong> Douglas<\/strong> and <strong>Deborah London.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u00a0gang members operated according to a common set of Bloods\u2019 rules, also known as \u201cThe 31,\u201d followed the gang\u2019s ranking system, used the communication codes and language affiliated with the gang, and used distinctive markings, tattoos and colors to indicate allegiance to the gang, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants also regularly participated in gang meetings, during which they collected gang dues, planned actions against individuals suspected of cooperating with law enforcement, discussed the commission of crimes to include robbery and murder, and made plans to obstruct justice and to prevent the prosecution of other UBN gang members, among others, according to officials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These are the facts and circumstances surrounding this case, officials stated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On \u00a0May 25, 2014, Cureton, Adoma and Fudge robbed \u201cThe Mattress Warehouse,\u201d located in Pineville, N.C.<\/li>\n<li>Cureton committed the robbery at gun point, while Adoma served as the lookout man and Fudge the getaway driver.<\/li>\n<li>During the robbery, Cureton and Douglas London exchanged gunfire, Cureton was injured and the three conspirators fled the scene.<\/li>\n<li>Cureton sought medical treatment at an area hospital and was arrested on state charges related to the robbery.<\/li>\n<li>A criminal indictment bringing federal armed robbery and related charges against Cureton and Adoma was filed in Charlotte on November 18, 2014.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0On January 21, 2015, Fudge was added as a third defendant for his role the robbery.<\/li>\n<li>Over the next five months, the defendants exchanged correspondence and conducted numerous in-person and telephonic gang meetings, during which they discussed and planned the murder of Douglas London, the only eyewitness to the robbery.<\/li>\n<li>On October 23, 2014, Johnson drove Hartley to South Carolina, where Hartley shot and killed Douglas and Deborah London at their home.<\/li>\n<li>Shortly after, Cureton ordered the gang to remain silent about the Londons\u2019 murders.<\/li>\n<li>Kornegay also conducted a telephone gang meeting with other UBN gang members, during which he directed them to lay low to avoid contact with law enforcement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The indictment further charges Cureton and Ahkeem McDonald with the murder of Kwamne Donqurius Clyburn.<\/p>\n<p>According to the indictment, on or about August 22, 2013, the two gang members shot and killed <strong>Kwamne Clyburn<\/strong> for \u201cfalse claiming,\u201d that is, claiming to be a United Blood Nation member when he was not.<\/p>\n<p>Nine defendants are currently in federal custody and had their initial appearances in Charlotte today. Law enforcement arrested Kornegay in Greenville and he appeared in federal court in Raleigh.
