\"criminal_justice_jurisprudence<\/a>NEWARK, NJ<\/strong>\u2014A 25-year-old \u00a0man last week admitted to sexually abusing a sleeping woman aboard a Royal Carribean c<\/strong>ruise ship, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

Karan Seechurn<\/strong>, 25, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Esther Salas in Newark to one count of abusive sexual contact.<\/p>\n

According to documents and court records, here is what happened:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Seechurn was employed by a cruise line and was responsible for restocking the minibars located in passengers\u2019 rooms.<\/p>\n

In order to do his job, he was provided with a key that gave him access to passengers\u2019 rooms.<\/p>\n

Seechurn admitted that on Dec. 23, 2014, while he was off-duty, he entered a passenger\u2019s room and saw a sleeping woman. Seechurn admitted that he touched the passenger\u2019s genitalia while she was asleep.<\/p>\n

Seechurn is facing up to three years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced in August.<\/p>\n

The federal government has special maritime jurisdiction over sexual abuse cases, such as those that occur on cruise ships, officials stated.<\/p>\n
