Cops Tased Woman\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><strong>SOUTH CAROLINA<\/strong> &#8211; Two former police officers with the city of Marion Police Department who tased a mentally disabled woman were given prison sentences, according to federal officials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Franklin Brown<\/strong>, 35, and <strong>Eric Walters<\/strong>, 39, both former police officers with the city of Marion Police Department in Marion County were sentenced on Monday to serve 18 months and one year and one day in prison, respectively<\/p>\n<p>Brown and Walters repeatedly tased a female resident while she was being detained, officials said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe defendants abused their authority as law enforcement officers by repeatedly tasing a defenseless, compliant victim,\u201d said Deputy Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta of the Civil Rights Division. \u00a0\u201cToday\u2019s sentence is a reminder that this type of abusive and dishonorable behavior will not go unpunished.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Former-S.C.-Cops-Tased-Woman-e1430245128866.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-11569\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Former-S.C.-Cops-Tased-Woman-e1430245128866-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Former S.C. Cops Tased Woman\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Former-S.C.-Cops-Tased-Woman-e1430245128866-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Former-S.C.-Cops-Tased-Woman-e1430245128866-181x180.jpg 181w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brown and Walters previously pleaded guilty to violating the victim\u2019s civil rights during this incident.<br \/>\n<script src=\"http:\/\/WMBF.images.worldnow.com\/interface\/js\/WNVideo.js?rnd=314206;hostDomain=www.wmbfnews.com;playerWidth=640;playerHeight=400;isShowIcon=true;clipId=11435728;flvUri=;partnerclipid=;adTag=News;advertisingZone=;enableAds=true;landingPage=;islandingPageoverride=false;playerType=STANDARD_EMBEDDEDscript;controlsType=fixed\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"WMBFNews.com, Myrtle Beach\/Florence SC, Weather\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wmbfnews.com\">WMBFNews.com, Myrtle Beach\/Florence SC, Weather<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>According to court documents, on April 2, 2013, this is what happened:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While detaining the victim, Walters tased the victim causing her to fall to the ground and injure her head.<\/p>\n<p>Once she was on the ground, Walters continued to tase the victim multiple times. \u00a0Brown subsequently arrived on scene and proceeded to tase the victim as she was seated on the curb, restrained in handcuffs and surrounded by law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Walters and Brown admitted there was no legitimate law enforcement purpose for repeatedly tasing the victim as she did not pose a threat to the officers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"encrypted-content\">\n<p>During \u00a0the hearing, family members of the victim said this is something she will live with for the rest of her life. They said she suffers from night-terrors, sweating and crying because of what she went through that night, and is just now able to talk about it over two years later, according to a report on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scnow.com\/news\/local\/article_998570a4-ed1b-11e4-95e2-53df5902589e.html\">SCNow.com<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"encrypted-content\">\n<p>\u201cNothing can prepare you for something like this,\u201d said Loretta Baldwin, Davis\u2019 sister. \u201cThis is something we\u2019re left with for a life time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"encrypted-content\">\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t understand why something like this could ever happen to somebody like her,\u201d said Tara Askins, Davis\u2019 caretaker at the time of the incident, the SCNow report stated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SOUTH CAROLINA &#8211; Two former police officers with the city of Marion Police Department who tased a mentally disabled woman were given prison sentences, according to federal officials.
