\"DEA<\/a>The \u00a0former governor of Tamaulipas, Mexico was named in an indictment that was unsealed Friday in U.S. District Court charging him and his brother-in-law with money laundering, according to officials.<\/p>\n

\"Tamaulipas-Mexico\"<\/a>Former governor of Tamaulipas, Eugenio Hernandez Flores,<\/strong> also was charged with aiding and abetting the operation of an unlicensed money transmitting business, announced U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hernandez Flores, 57, was indicted along with Oscar Gomez Guerra, 43, on May 27, 2015.<\/p>\n

Both men are considered fugitives and warrants remain outstanding for their arrests<\/p>\n

Hernandez Flores was the governor of the Mexican State of Tamaulipas from 2005 to 2010. Gomez Guerra is married to his sister.<\/p>\n

The U.S. government intends to seek a personal money judgment from both men in the amount of $30 million.<\/p>\n

Also included in the indictment is a notice of criminal forfeiture regarding four real properties, three of which are located in McAllen and are valued at more than $2 million. The other property is located in Austin, officials said.<\/p>\n

If convicted of the money laundering conspiracy, the two face up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $500,000 (or twice the value of the monetary instrument or funds involved in the transactions or both).<\/p>\n

They will also face up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 maximum fine if convicted of operating an unlicensed money transmitting business.<\/p>\n
