{"id":13050,"date":"2015-06-23T11:30:37","date_gmt":"2015-06-23T18:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=13050"},"modified":"2015-06-24T11:17:50","modified_gmt":"2015-06-24T18:17:50","slug":"former-cop-sentenced-to-more-than-five-years-in-prison-for-kicking-suspect-in-the-face","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=13050","title":{"rendered":"Former Cop Sentenced to More Than Five Years in Prison For Kicking Suspect in the Face"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>IOWA<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A federal judge sentenced former police officer who ran up to a suspect being held down by three other officers and kicked him in the face to five years and three months in prison.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10027\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10027\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Police-Officer-Colin-Boone-e1426289074568.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10027 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Police-Officer-Colin-Boone-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"Police Officer Colin Boone\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10027\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former police officer Colin Boone<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Colin Boone<\/strong> was\u00a0previously employed as an officer of the Des Moines, Iowa, Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs this sentences makes clear, there are serious consequences when law enforcement officers betray the trust of their community by violating the rights of individuals,\u201d said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Gupta.\u00a0 \u201cThe Department of Justice stands ready to hold accountable those who violate the civil rights laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other officers reported Boone\u2019s conduct to supervisors after learning that Boone had submitted a written report in which he failed to account truthfully for his actions, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The evidence presented at trial showed that Boone ran up to an arrestee and kicked him in the face while he was being held on the ground, face-down, by three other officers.\u00a0 The evidence also showed that Boone\u2019s kick knocked out the victim\u2019s front teeth and broke his nose, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>This case arose from Boone&#8217;s use of excessive force against Orville Hill during Hill\u2019s arrest on Feb. 19, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>During the incident, Boone arrived at a scene where three fellow Des Moines police officers were holding Hill on the ground and a fourth officer was standing over the group.<\/p>\n<p>Boone ran up to the group and kicked Hill in the face, knocking out two of Hill\u2019s teeth and breaking his nose.<\/p>\n<p>On March 13, 2015, a jury found Boone guilty of violating Hill\u2019s civil rights by using unreasonable force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs this sentences makes clear, there are serious consequences when law enforcement officers betray the trust of their community by violating the rights of individuals,\u201d said Deputy Assistant Attorney General Gupta.\u00a0 \u201cThe Department of Justice stands ready to hold accountable those who violate the civil rights laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FBI investigated this case.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IOWA &nbsp;
