\"Department<\/a>A federal judge sentenced a former\u00a0Honolulu police officer to two years and six months in prison for assaulting two men in an unprovoked attack, officials announced.<\/p>\n

U.S. District Judge J. Michael Seabright<\/strong>\u00a0on Friday sentenced former Honolulu Police Officer Vincent Morre,<\/strong> 38, for violating the civil rights of two Honolulu men.<\/p>\n

Morre also filed a false report about the incident, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen this defendant violated the trust of the people he was sworn to serve, the Department of Justice stood ready to enforce the law and protect the civil rights of all Americans,\u201d said Deputy Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta, head of the Civil Rights Division.<\/strong><\/p>\n
