{"id":19016,"date":"2016-01-06T14:49:17","date_gmt":"2016-01-06T22:49:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=19016"},"modified":"2016-01-06T14:49:17","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T22:49:17","slug":"four-allegedly-embezzled-8-million-commercial-laundry-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=19016","title":{"rendered":"Four Allegedly Embezzled $8 Million from Commercial Laundry Company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>LOS ANGELES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Federal-Court-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7261 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Federal-Court--300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Federal Court\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Federal-Court--300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Federal-Court--90x60.jpg 90w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Federal-Court--180x120.jpg 180w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Federal-Court--95x64.jpg 95w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Federal-Court-.jpg 301w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Four Southern California men allegedly embezzled more than $8 million from \u00a0an industrial launderer based in Gardena that provided finishing services for Citizens of Humanity, a manufacturer of high-end designer jeans, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Officials said<strong> Luis Mariano Rodriguez<\/strong>, 48, of East Los Angeles, the one-time president of CM Laundry, LLC, and three associates were arrested Tuesday for allegedly causing the laundry to pay fraudulent invoices that contained fictitious and inflated charges, and concealed Rodriguez\u2019s role in the underlying transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Since 2007, CM Laundry has been owned by <strong>Citizens of Humanity, LLC,<\/strong> a Huntington Park company that manufactures more than 1 million pairs of high-end denim jeans every year, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The other three defendants arrested were the following people:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Antonio Anguiano<\/strong>, 48, of Riverside, the owner of <strong>FI Products,<\/strong> which sold personal protective equipment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Terry Jay Mink<\/strong>, 62, of Rancho Palos Verdes, the owner of <strong>H&amp;T Industrial Products<\/strong>, a hardware company that serviced CM Laundry<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Rene Exequiel Bautista<\/strong>, 43, of Sylmar, the owner of <strong>Valley Star Realty<\/strong>, which was used in the scheme under the fictitious business name \u201cK&amp;R Industrial Supplies.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">All four defendants made their initial appearances, were released on bond and were ordered to return to court for arraignments on Feb. 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to a criminal complaint filed last month, Rodriguez caused CM Laundry to pay more than $8 million after fraudulent invoices were submitted to the company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cMr. Rodriguez allegedly orchestrated a long-running scheme that took millions of dollars from his employer,\u201d said <strong>U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker. \u201c<\/strong>The scheme involved other defendants who also allegedly stole proceeds generated through fraudulently issued bills. All of these individuals must now face the criminal justice system for their criminal conduct.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to the affidavit in support of the criminal complaint, Anguiano, through his company, FI Products, billed CM Laundry for over $3.6 million. This occurred from about May 2007 to about September 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">During this period, FI Products transferred approximately $2.3 million to Rodriguez and his company, Genesis Electronics, Inc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Mink, through his company, H&amp;T Industrial Products, billed CM Laundry for over $5.5 million and transferred approximately $3.6 million to Rodriguez and Genesis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Bautista, a real estate agent participated in this scheme through his company, K&amp;R Industrial Supplies, he established in 2012 at the behest of Rodriguez and was used to submit invoices from Genesis to CM Laundry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Over an 18-month period, K&amp;R Industrial Supplies billed CM Laundry for approximately $640,000 and transferred approximately $493,000 to Rodriguez and Genesis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cBautista admitted Rodriguez produced and submitted all of the K&amp;R Industrial Supplies invoices that were submitted to CM Laundry and paid by Citizens,\u201d according to the complaint affidavit.\u00a0\u201cBautista stated [in a deposition related to a civil lawsuit] that he did not create any of the K&amp;R Industrial Supplies invoices, did not know what any of the invoiced items were, and did not supply anything to CM Laundry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The complaint charges Rodriguez with three counts of mail fraud. The other three defendants are charged with one count of mail fraud.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> If they are convicted, each of the four defendants is facing up to 20 years in federal prison for each count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">As a result of civil litigation brought by CM Laundry and Citizens of Humanity, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge in November 2015 ordered Rodriguez and several other defendants to pay a total of $9,.5 million, according to the criminal
