{"id":19572,"date":"2016-01-21T18:52:27","date_gmt":"2016-01-22T02:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=19572"},"modified":"2016-01-21T18:52:27","modified_gmt":"2016-01-22T02:52:27","slug":"19572-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=19572","title":{"rendered":"Woman Stole Identities of 50 Medical Patients to File False Tax Returns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>LOS ANGELES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15368 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Courtroom.jpg\" alt=\"Courtroom\" width=\"200\" height=\"181\" \/>A jury convicted a Riverside woman of stealing the identities of more than 50 patients of a residential medical facility in Long Beach formerly known as the <strong>Hillcrest Care Center<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Bridgette Jackson<\/strong>, 45, was convicted by a jury Wednesday in federal court of conspiring to possess more than 15 identities, possessing more than 15 identities, and aggravated identity theft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>U.S. District Judge Manuel L. Real<\/strong> scheduled a sentencing hearing for March 7. \u00a0Jackson is facing a sentence of two years to 17 years in federal prison, officials said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Jackson\u2019s aunt, who testified against her at the trial, was an employee at the <strong>Hillcrest Care Center<\/strong> and had access to all of the patient files.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to the testimony at trial, Jackson approached her aunt and asked for personal identifying information of patients. Jackson\u2019s aunt copied or wrote down personal identifying information and gave it to Jackson on three separate occasions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Jackson then used that information to help others file false tax returns in the names of the patients and keep the refunds for themselves, according to testimony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">When law enforcement executed a search warrant on Jackson\u2019s residence, officers seized approximately 56 Hillcrest medical records, along with almost 70 other identity profiles, which included names, social security numbers, and dates of birth of individuals other than Jackson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Law enforcement also seized over 50 prepaid debit cards in names of people other than Jackson, officials said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThis identity theft scheme targeted vulnerable victims,\u201d said <strong>U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker<\/strong>. \u201cThe victims included elderly patients at a convalescent home and a 28-year-old woman with a traumatic brain injury who has lived in a 24-hour nursing facility since she was 16.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In an unrelated case, Jackson pled guilty last year to conspiring to commit credit card fraud in federal court in Riverside and faces up to five years when she is sentenced in that case on March 28, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A jury convicted a Riverside woman of
