{"id":20306,"date":"2016-02-10T14:22:49","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T22:22:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=20306"},"modified":"2016-02-10T16:19:47","modified_gmt":"2016-02-11T00:19:47","slug":"facts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=20306","title":{"rendered":"The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Guards\u2014 Strict Discipline, Long History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">During a recent blizzard in the Northeast part of the country that resulted in record snowfall, there was a soldier guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong> \u00a0These military members have a long history and very strict discipline that includes the following, according Mental Floss:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">If chosen to be a member of the Old Guard, the applicant goes through an intense training period, in which they must pass tests on weapons, ceremonial steps, cadence, military bearing, uniform preparation, and orders. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Although military members are known for their neat uniforms, it\u2019s said that the Tomb Guards have the highest standards of them all. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A knowledge test quizzes applicants on their memorization\u2014including punctuation\u2014of 35 pages on the history of the Tomb.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> Once they\u2019re selected, Guards \u201cwalk the mat\u201d in front of the Tomb for anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the time of year and time of day. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">They work in 24-hour shifts, however, and when they aren\u2019t walking the mat, they\u2019re in the living quarters beneath it. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This gives the sentinels time to complete training and prepare their uniforms, which can take up to eight hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Tomb Guard badge is the least awarded badge in the Army, and the second least awarded badge in the overall military. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0Tomb Guards are held to the highest standards of behavior, and can have their badge taken away for any action on or off duty that could bring disrespect to the Tomb. And that\u2019s for the entire lifetime of the Tomb Guard, even well after his or her guarding duty is over. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">For the record, it seems that Tomb
