\"VirginiaA judge sentenced a former government contracting employee to three years and 10 months in prison for his role in a bribery scheme involving a federal program in Afghanistan, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

George E. Green<\/strong>, 58, of Carrollton, Texas, who worked at International Relief and Development Inc.<\/strong>\u00a0 in Texas,\u00a0was also ordered to forfeit $51,000.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to his plea agreement, officials said Green served as Relief and Development\u2019s director of contracts, procurement and grants in connection with a cooperative agreement between U.S. Agency for International Development and Relief and Development.<\/span><\/p>\n

The agreement was designed to strengthen economic stabilization and promote long-term agricultural development in specific areas of Afghanistan, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

Green admitted that in March and April 2012, he solicited and received a $51,000 bribe from a representative of an Afghan company that provided agriculture-related products and that sought subcontracts from Relief and Development, officials said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Between May and August 2012, after he returned to Texas, he tried to hide the bribes by conspiring with others to make cash deposits of less than $10,000 each into his bank and credit card accounts to keep from legally reporting cash to federal authorities, officials said.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
