He copied the screeners onto a portable drive and uploaded the movies from his home computer on December 17 and 19, 2015 to a BitTorrent website called \u201cPass the Popcorn,\u201d which allowed downloading via a peer-to-peer network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe Revenant\u201d was uploaded six days prior to its limited release in theaters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20830 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Peanuts_2015-203x300.jpg\" alt=\"Peanuts_2015\" width=\"203\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Peanuts_2015-203x300.jpg 203w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Peanuts_2015.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 203px) 100vw, 203px\" \/>\u201cAs the Academy Awards ceremony this weekend highlights, the entertainment industry is the economic cornerstone of the Central District of California. Therefore, my office is committed to protecting its intellectual property,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker. \u201cThe defendant\u2019s conduct harmed the very industry that was providing his livelihood as well as the livelihood of others in Southern California.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cStealing movies is not a victimless crime,\u201d said <strong>David Bowdich, the Assistant Director of the FBI\u2019s Los Angeles Field Office. \u201c<\/strong>The FBI will continue to pursue those who steal intellectual property, a crime that negatively impacts the U.S. economy, and in the case of a movie leak, victimizes everyday workers in the entertainment industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Morarity agreed to plead guilty to uploading copyrighted work being prepared for commercial distribution, a felony offense.
